About the Program

Hundreds of workers in San Diego are underemployed and stuck in lower-paying, less-rewarding, dead-end jobs. Their ability to earn more money is thwarted by their lack of workforce training, education, or economic opportunity. East County Economic Development Council (ECEDC) intends to help these members of the community by offering the Slingshot Program.
The Slingshot Program offers risk-free loans for workforce training for in-demand jobs. If you are looking to take the next step in your career, but need a helping hand, this is the program for you. After training completion, the participant will be placed in a job pool. Our partnering staffing agencies will work to place the participant in their desired field in a higher paying job.

If you do not secure a higher paying job, the loan will be completely forgiven!

What Does the Process Look Like?

1. Registration

Click the link above to register for the Slingshot Program. This will ask for your contact information, goals, and a credit check.

2. Character Assessment

This online assessment will test basic reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.

3. Consultation

Discuss your desired training program with one of our qualified team members.

4. Get Loan & Begin Training

Your loan amount will be paid directly to your chosen training provider and you can begin your program with no hassle.

5. Training Completed

Programs can last a few weeks to a few months depending on which you choose

6. Job Placement Pool

You will be placed into a qualified pool of jobseekers. Our partnering staffing agencies will work to place you in new, higher paying jobs.

7. Employment

Start a new job putting your training to use!

8. Loan Repayment/Forgiveness

If you are able to secure a higher paying job, you will begin loan repayment; however, if you are unable to secure a higher paying job, your loan will be completely forgiven.
